The beautiful town of Albany lies 410km south of Perth in the heart of the Great Southern region of Western Australia. Albany marks the spot where the first European settlers set foot in Western Australia. King George Sound farewelled the first convoy of ANZACS on their departure during WWI.
The National Anzac Centre is a state-of-the-art interpretive museum overlooking King George Sound and provides stunning views of the area.
Venture into the past with a visit to Discovery Bay the only one of its kind that features a museum housed in the original whaling station. The industry met its demise in 1978 and the sound has now become a safe haven for migrating Humpback and Southern Right whales. It is not uncommon to spot them from the shoreline even with their calfs. A favourite spot is at Marine Drive lookout.
There is so much to see and do in this beautiful region of WA from a visit to Torndirrup National Park featuring The Gap and Natural Bridge, or the very impressive Wind Farm on the outskirts of town and it's beautiful trails.
The town of Albany comes to life at the weekends with local fresh farmers markets, whaling tours, local exhibitions and galleries, a large variety of restaurants and a host of taverns. The beautiful beaches of Middleton Beach and Emu Point are very popular for families and make a safe swimming spot with their excellent facilities and huge shark net. The biggest in the state.
With the recently revamped foreshore in town and heaps of parks and playing areas there is something for everyone and for every age. Albany is a delight and the views are spectacular!
