Hillarys Boat Harbour and Sorrento Quay are one in the same place. The area referred to as Sorrento Quay is the boardwalk area filled with retail shops, souvenir and gift shops, jewellers, real estate agents, cafe's, restaurants and many many more. It is also the home to the Rottnest Island Ferry departure point, Hillarys Harbour Resort and of course the very popular Aqua, Perths only Aquarium. On the other side of the Quay, where there is a long boardwalk connecting the shoreline to the shopping area lies the marina and harbour. Here hundreds of boats are moored and dominate the harbour area. The Rottnest Island Ferry departs through the harbour out to the sea beyond and all around it are a scattering of restaurants and eateries including the very well known Break Water Bar and Restaurant.
This image was taken after the sun had set and the light was fading, looking directly at the Breakwater Bar, making it a focal point of the image. Blue hues dominate the photograph and the cloud formation highlights the buildings below. The strong colours of illuminated light and reflection steer your focus onto the bars and restaurants along the boardwalk. A tranquil still waters, set the scene and create a calming seascape shot.
