Albany Westside


Albany, located 418 km south East of Perth with a population of approx. 31,000 people is classed as WA's 5th most populous city after Perth, Bunbury, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie. It is a popular tourist destination to anyone visiting the Great Southern region of Western Australia.

This photograph shows the west side of Albany town centre. You can just make out the high street which sits to the far right of the picture and slopes down towards the harbour. To the left lies Mount Melville and its lookout tower. The prominent street featured in this image is Parade street. A beautiful, quiet residential street which slopes steeply down towards the Amity Brig below, with incredible views of the Harbour. The Amity Brig is situated in the Historical Precinct, off Princess Royal Drive at the end of Parade Street. She is a beautiful replica of the original vessel. The original "Amity Brig" sailed from Sydney to King George Sound on the 9th of November 1826, arriving in the Princess Royal Harbour on Christmas Day 1826. Under the command of Major Edmund Lockyer with orders to form a settlement at King George Sound.
