On June 8th a wonderful organisation called Rafiki Surgical Missions held their annual ball at Perth Crown. Now in its 16th year, the Rafiki Ball is the main fundraising event for Rafiki Surgical Missions. Each year at the Ball they raise the majority of their annual operating costs to send medical teams to Tanzania to provide free medical treatment and train local staff and transport donated medical equipment to under-resourced clinics and hospitals. Rafiki is a volunteer-run organisation with zero admin costs. Every dollar raised at the Ball goes directly to their work in Tanzania. They pride themselves on keeping their event costs to a minimum through the generous support of corporate sponsors, donors and volunteers, while still creating a spectacular evening that is always great fun.
Having been introduced to the work they do and attending one of their balls in the past, we jumped at the chance to get involved. This year we contributed one of our favourite Fine Art images to the event, for the silent auction. It sold for $550. A great effort by the very generous buyer. We will continue to support Rafiki Surgical Missions into the future.
With this small contribution we have now achieved goal no.3 on our Sustainable Development chart - Health and Well-Being.
